Psychedelic sounds abound as Sun Down Circle makes its second appearance at the Desa this month. We join forces with Jakarta’s Zodiac crew to welcome near-mythical DJ/production outfit Idjut Boys alongside Rocco Universal and more.
Sun Down Circle is where Potato Head revels in cosmically-charmed music as the sun slowly dips beyond the horizon, with hand-chosen DJs selecting the soundtrack as the Seminyak sky morphs from the golden light of the day to the darkness of the tropical night.
For this edition, we’re beyond excited to host the revered musical minds of the Idjut Boys — a London-based duo who’ve been crafting immaculate meta-disco sounds for three decades. Their mind-expanding productions have garnered cult status among in-the-know collectors and their curve-ball-filled DJ sets are known for seamlessly gliding across stylistic boundaries while lighting up discerning dancefloors. Expect the unexpected when they grace the Desa decks.
Joining them on the turntables will be Rocco Universal, a cultured producer and selector whose music has appeared in the sets and mixes of some of the underground’s most respected artists. A seasoned vinyl collector, he puts years of digging to good use via effortlessly eclectic DJ sets, carefully choosing from a far-reaching collection of sounds to match the dancefloor mood.

Idjut Boys
The production duo of Dan Tyler and Conrad McDonnell have been crafting dub-heavy, disco-infused sounds under the Idjut Boys moniker (among others) since as far back as the early ‘90s. Releasing on revered labels like Nuphonic, Leng, and Smalltown Supersound — as well as their own U Star and recently revived Noid imprint — many of the pair’s productions are considered gems among discerning vinyl collectors. Their expansive DJ sets are packed with floor-filling sonic surprises, blending space disco, house, AOR, psychedelic rock among many other morsels.
Rocco Universal
DJ, producer and journalist Rocco Universal’s love of esoteric music runs decades deep. He’s released cosmic-rooted sounds on benchmark labels Soul Clap, Leng, and Kolour Recordings – as well as his own Cosmic Tiger imprint – gaining support and plays from revered underground selectors. He’s performed at events and festivals across continents and has reviewed and interviewed musical icons for respected international music press.
