### Celebrated singer, songwriter and wellness icon Erykah Badu is set to make her Bali debut with an unmissable live performance at Desa Potato Head on Saturday, 1 June.
 
The show marks the launch of the 2024 edition of Merasa — 7 day experience dedicated to regenerating and elevating mind and body, this time co-curated by Erykah herself. 

In the realm of visionaries, few names carry as much weight and soulful resonance as the Grammy Award-winning artist. A true creative force, she organically builds bridges connecting music, wellness, and creativity, inviting all who encounter her to embark on a transformative journey of self-discovery and growth. 

In so many ways, Erykah Badu is the embodiment of our Good Times, Do Good ethos. 

Steeped in soul, swagger and conscious lyricism, iconic albums like ‘Baduizm’ or ‘Mama’s Gun’ continue to touch the lives of millions of fans worldwide, while her mesmerising performance prowess serves to enhance her status as one of the most gifted soul artists of her generation.

As well as her opening performance, Erykah will lead a talk and morning session during the event. She’ll be joined by a hand-picked set of friends and wellness luminaries — including KT The Arch Degree, Notep, Tjok Gde Kerthyasa, Fa’ Pawaka and Waangenga Blanco — who will each share their unique perspectives during an extended celebration of life, nature, music, energy and exchange.

From the halcyon days of disco at Paradise Garage to techno’s formative years at The Music Institute and the blossoming of house music at The Warehouse. Dance music has always needed the right space from where its gravitational rhythms resonate with the audience. 

Inspired by these iconic venues and the sounds and communities they helped to nurture and grow, we built **[Klymax Discotheque](https://www.klymax.co/)** — a purpose-built nightclub dedicated to the art of dance.

The venue was designed from ground to sound in partnership with our longtime friend, DJ Harvey, with the legendary scene provocateur channelling every ounce of his 40-plus years of experience acquired operating at the pinnacle of the dance underground to help bring the project to life. Featuring state-of-the-art sound, design and lighting, every element has been carefully considered to enhance the dancefloor experience. 

At Klymax, the sound comes first, with the system custom-built to Harvey’s specifications by revered audio engineer, George Stavro. Rich, finely poised and immaculately detailed, the system creates a vast sonic sweet spot, presenting the music exactly as it was intended to be heard, with every nuance intact.

And the attention to sound isn’t limited to the speaker stacks and amplifiers. The club's interior – designed with Potato Head Design Studio in collaboration with Dutch architects OMA – is acoustically treated to tame errant frequencies, featuring a sprung dancefloor to help add bounce to the moves of marathon dancers. 

You might be wondering what music you’re likely to hear emanating from the Klymax speakers. In keeping with the space itself, the curation has been meticulously thought out, with a hand-chosen selection of revered international talents ushered in to perform alongside local residents.

Our food menu is curated by Chef Diego Recarte – highlighting the minimal intervention of local ingredients with dishes that promote both personal health and the well-being of our environment. Our wine list, meanwhile, has been chosen by Head Sommelier Minyoung Ryu, featuring tempting natural wines that pair perfectly with our dishes, appealing to both seasoned wine enthusiasts and newcomers alike.

So, what exactly is natural wine? Crafted with minimal interference, natural wine avoids additives or removal of elements – embracing naturally occurring ingredients and making use of whatever conditions the specific region and year provide. Grapes come from smaller-scale farming, usually following organic or biodynamic practices. This environmentally respectful winemaking uses living organisms instead of pesticides, resulting in unique colours, tastes, and appearances.

Taking inspiration from Buckminster Fuller's home – and brought to life by [Potato Head Design Studio](https://seminyak.potatohead.co/sleep) in collaboration with OMA – the venue’s unique dome shape and retro-futurist interior are designed to foster interaction and create a warm, inviting atmosphere.
 
And, just as the food, drink, architecture and design aspects have been meticulously curated, the music at Dome – featuring a vinyl-only DJ set up and vintage JBL speaker stacks – combines a hand-picked selection of rare, archival and cutting-edge contemporary sounds carefully chosen to enhance the carefree mood. Simply put, Dome is a perfect place for connecting with others and sharing stories.

Dome: Natural Food and Wine from Spaceship Earth

**Friday 10 November, 5pm — 2am Beach Club**

Australia’s DJ Boring arrives at Potato Head [Beach Club](https://seminyak.potatohead.co/feast/beach-club) alongside Jakarta-based Herta and local hero Dita for a night of nuanced dancefloor flavours. 

Don’t let the name fool you, watching DJ Boring in action is the antithesis of his tongue-in-cheek pseudonym; vibrant, fun and full of passion. Having started DJing at parties in Melbourne aged 18, he moved to London in 2015 — from where he achieved viral success the following year with his breakthrough track ‘Winona’. Since then, he’s released music on benchmark labels Running Back and Shall Not Fade, and has performed his infectious live show and energetic DJ sets across clubland’s most discerning floors.

Herta, meanwhile, is a key figure in Jakarta’s esoteric music scene. As well as founding the Abadi Record’s store and platform, he regularly brings his cultured blend of funk, world music and all shades of electronica to [bars and clubs](https://seminyak.potatohead.co/feast/beach-club) of the Indonesian capital and hosts vinyl-only radio shows on Echobox Amsterdam and Norrm radio. Completing an intriguing lineup, Potato Head resident and local favourite Dita will effortlessly join the musical dots between all shades of house and disco, from dream house to Italo and much more in between.

He’s the founder of Abadi Records and a beloved member of the SCRUBS! Collective, alongside whom he continues to work Jakarta’s dancefloors and shine light on forgotten musical gems.

**About Michael Tartaglia**

Michael Tartaglia is a photographer and director, originally from Perth, Western Australia. He has lived abroad in both Italy and Indonesia, furthering his global approach to creation and the continual development of his style.

In principle, Michael is inspired by the intersection of arts, culture and nature, and understanding how this relationship can be reimagined and retrofitted to cater to modern ideas.

Michael also works within the print and publishing space, having founded Foolish, an events, publishing and visual arts project in 2015.

Now based in Gadigal land (Sydney, Australia), Michael aims to continue expanding the breadth of creative projects in both the photography and directorial space.

The Potato Head collection combines Balinese craftsmanship with a modern aesthetic, featuring loving nods to the music and culture that shape our island experience while embracing eco-conscious production practices.

We drew inspiration from our diverse range of influences, piecing together visual and stylistic fragments into an eclectic selection that brings the essence of our Desa life to the world – from favourite record sleeves to graphic elements from Bali’s Homegrown zine, playful hospitality references to the island’s ubiquitous reptile, the gecko.

And, as with everything we do at Potato Head, we worked hard to find [sustainable](https://seminyak.potatohead.co/regenerate) solutions when bringing this collection to life. Whether it’s our Eco Vero™ shirts and sarongs or our recycled nylon shorts, hand-woven and hand-dyed beach pants and anorak or our hand-crafted silver jewellery, the range utilises recycled and environmentally friendly materials throughout.

Desa Potato Head included in The World’s 50 Best Hotels awards

As some of the world’s best bartenders head back to Asia this October, we've partnered with Altos Tequila to bring some of them to our Desa from the 7 to the 12 in a programme curated together with industry legend and Potato Head family friend, Dre Masso.

On Saturday 7, the party starts at 6pm with London-based Dre joining Simon Kistenfeger — the owner of Berlin’s upcoming plant-based bar, Mucho Amor — to enhance the sundown with cocktails carefully blended from Altos Tequila and locally sourced ingredients. Expect 3-chilli margarita, coconut paloma, almost naked and famous and mex martinis served alongside tacos and corn ribs.

Then, on Thursday 12, we'll welcome a pair of the world’s 50 Best female bartenders — Megs Miller and Christine Wiseman, arriving from Mexico City and Miami respectively see out the week’s bar action in style.

**Pioneering Detroit artist Theo Parrish makes his Desa Potato Head debut on Friday 27 October.**

Theo Parrish is someone who needs little in the way of introduction. Simply put, the Detroit-based producer, DJ and label head is among the most respected creators to have emerged from the dance underground in the last 30 years.

His groundbreaking productions combine house and techno thrust with flashes of jazz, soul, and funk, while his genre-defying DJ sets brilliantly blend far-reaching textures into immersive dancefloor journeys. Parrish is the founder of the hugely influential Sound Signature label, which — as well as providing the home for the bulk of his prolific output — has been graced by a select group of acts including Omar S, Waajeed, Byron The Aquarius, and Mark De Clive-Lowe.

The event is the latest episode of our long-running collaboration with Bali’s PNNY Collective and sees a selection of local talents take the Seminyak stage.

**On 22 September, we welcome UK artists Leon Vynehall and Moxie for a night of floor-focused electronic grooves.**

For our ongoing Potato Head Presents series, we regularly welcome high-grade international DJs to showcase their eclectic dance sounds at the Desa. This time out, the celebrated pairing of Leon Vynehall and Moxie take the stage for a back-to-back set, ready to stir up the Beach Club with their immaculate mix of club-ready rhythms.

Leon Vynehall is an artist who constantly surprises as his music twists and turns across stylistic boundaries. After making an impact with a series of critically acclaimed underground house releases, his 2014 debut album defied expectations with its introspective tone and nostalgic themes. He’s continued his sonic experimentation across four albums and dozens of singles, and he’s recorded all-encompassing DJ mixes for iconic compilation series including Fabric Presents, K7, and Resident Advisor.

Joining him on the decks, Moxie is a DJ, label boss and party promoter known and loved for her expansive dancefloor sound. Mixing anything from classic house to leftfield breaks, she maintains a tireless touring schedule at the world’s most respected venues and continues to present her longstanding show on NTS Radio. Local favourites Dita and Marvel will step up with a back-to-back set of their own, representing Potato Head in style with their energetic blend of house, disco, and Balearic grooves.

Join us as this talented ensemble set the mood as we dance together late into the Balinese night.

Revered selectors Palms Trax, Shanti Celeste, Kamma & Masalo, and Omoloko are drafted to set the NYE mood, playing from daytime until deep into the night alongside a selection of friends and local favourites. As ever, our Beach Club will provide the [oceanside](https://seminyak.potatohead.co/feast/beach-club) setting, with a full stage and extended dancefloor playing host to far-reaching music from a diverse lineup. 

Join us as we usher in the New Year on the Seminyak shores while expansive sounds and styles echo across the Desa dancefloor – from deep house to Motor City techno, global disco to broken rhythms, and much more in between.

Berlin-based British producer and DJ Palms Trax has been operating at the dance music’s vanguard for over a decade. He showcases his inspired selections via a worldwide touring schedule and his long-running NTS Radio show, while his acclaimed releases on Dekmantel, Lobster Theremin and his own CWPT label have won him praise from all corners of the deep house spectrum.

Amsterdam-based double act and Rush Hour alumni Kamma & Masalo have been making waves with their expansive DJ sets in recent years – both at their iconic Brighter Days events and at global events and festivals. Eclectically-minded and adventurous, the pair expertly thread disparate sonic textures into powerfully coherent and floor-focused sets.

Omoloko is part of the new wave of artists leading the Brazilian scene from the front. His colourful 101Ø party in Belo Horizonte is one the most exciting in the country, while his musical selections are infused with the myriad of niche scenes and sounds you would hear when navigating Brazil – from disco to global groove, techno to broken beat.

Endowed with an eclectic touch that defines his genre-gliding sets, Gero is blessed with the ability to take listeners on an immersive musical journey. Whether soundtracking a mesmerising sunset or an evolving sunrise, he shapes captivating sets perfectly pitched to his surroundings.

Having begun his musical journey via the Jakarta-based Anja project back in 2017, Marvel’s reputation for crafting immersive, floor-friendly grooves has been steadily growing. His sets are shaped by a profound love of disco, house, funk, fusion – and everything in between.

Born into a musical family, Kenya Bahana Sastropawiro, AKA Kenya, has been surrounded by rhythmical instruments since childhood. Her selections incorporate pulsing rhythms and chugging bass augmented by celestial melodies, and her tightly woven sounds can be heard via regular appearances on Paddygrooves Radio, Dekadenz, PRMTVO, NTS Radio, HKCR, and Mojo Radio.

Shanti Celeste has won international acclaim for her contemporary, UK-informed take on the classic Motor City sound. The expansive visions of the early techno pioneers are reflected in Celeste's open take on her craft, while her emotion-rich productions on the likes of Dekmantel, Apron, Future Times, and her own Peach Discs imprint have helped amplify her unique creative message.

Nemo Ripoll is best known for being half of the Nemo and Castro duo alongside partner in crime, Castro Moore. The duo are the driving force behind Berlin’s Sound Metaphors record store and label project and are renowned party-starters thanks to their H.A.N.D. events. Here, Nemo makes a rare solo appearance, bringing his cultured sound and years-long digging credentials to the Desa Dancefloor.

The latest in our long-running Potato Head Presents series sees us welcome a pair of wildly talented and proudly uncompromising artists for an extended session. Groundbreaking artist SBTRKT makes his Desa Potato Head debut, bringing his soul-drenched fusion of bass, future breaks and ethereal electronica to our oceanside creative playground. He arrives following the release of his latest album, ’THE RAT ROAD’ — his first LP in seven years — which saw him collaborate with no fewer than 10 guest artists on a far-reaching set of tracks. Bringing her cultured sound to the lineup is Japanese DJ, producer and label head, Powder – a venerated musical force who’s quietly become one of the most sought-after DJs on the global circuit.

Completing the Seminyak soundtrack will be a hand-selected lineup of resident DJs, adding their eclectic blends to the party mood at what’s sure to be another unforgettable Potato Head [Bali event.](https://seminyak.potatohead.co/experiences)

After exploding onto the global stage with his eponymous debut LP in 2011, SBTRKT has gone on to release four studio albums and a string of hard-hitting singles, collaborating with the likes of Sampha, Little Dragon, Jessie Ware, Toro Y Moi and more across a varied but consistently brilliant musical catalogue.

### Potato Head presents Dean Blunt (DJ Set), Vegyn, John Glacier and pigbaby

On 26 August, Potato Head welcomes a selection of UK artists whose uncompromising creativity has catapulted them towards cult status in recent years, as Dean Blunt, Vegyn, pigbaby and John Glacier head to the Desa with their genre-defying sounds.

Each of these artists has emerged from the depths of the underground to achieve international acclaim in recent years. Celebrated producer and PLZ Make It Ruins label boss Vegyn made his debut at the Desa at one of last year’s [Headonism events](https://seminyak.potatohead.co/headonism) and we’re thrilled to welcome him back for a follow-up appearance. Avant-garde artist and mystery man pigbaby once again joins the tour – after his debut material recorded during lockdown led to Vegyn signing him to the label roster– while iconic singer-songwriter, prolific producer, and contemporary artist Dean Blunt flies in to showcase his hard-hitting sonic repertoire. Completing a fascinating lineup is enigmatic London rapper – and Plz Make It Ruins alumnus – John Glacier, who flies in to perform her deeply personal stream-of-consciousness raps over trademark lo-fi beats.

Producer and PLZ Make It Ruins label boss Joe Thornalley — aka Vegyn — is known for a genre-hopping sound that’s seen him emerge as one of the UK’s most influential contemporary musical artists. He’s released five acclaimed studio albums and a series of impactful singles, his self-released productions garnering worldwide recognition and leading to an invitation to produce tracks for Frank Ocean’s ‘Blonde’ and ‘Endless’ albums.

Roy Chukwuemeka Nnawuchi, better known as Dean Blunt, is a British singer-songwriter, musician and contemporary artist. He’s achieved iconic status thanks to both his solo work and collaborations – as one half of the venerated Hype Williams duo as well as recent material recorded with the hip-hop outfit, Babyfather. Outside of music, his paintings and art installations have been shown at galleries across the world.

Once considered one of the UK underground’s best-kept secrets, John Glacier has now found her place in the international spotlight, thanks to her slick, free-flowing lyrics, tight productions and captivating stage presence. Her introspective debut album ‘Shiloh: Lost For Words’ arrived on PLZ Make It Ruins in 2021, generating critical acclaim and leading to bookings at on-point festivals, including Lost, We Out Here, and Dour Festival.

### Sun Down Circle x Zodiac

Psychedelic sounds abound as Sun Down Circle makes its second appearance at the Desa this month. We join forces with Jakarta’s Zodiac crew to welcome near-mythical DJ/production outfit Idjut Boys alongside Rocco Universal and more.

Sun Down Circle is where Potato Head revels in cosmically-charmed music as the sun slowly dips beyond the horizon, with hand-chosen DJs selecting the soundtrack as the Seminyak sky morphs from the golden light of the day to the darkness of the tropical night.

For this edition, we’re beyond excited to host the revered musical minds of the Idjut Boys — a London-based duo who’ve been crafting immaculate meta-disco sounds for three decades. Their mind-expanding productions have garnered cult status among in-the-know collectors and their curve-ball-filled DJ sets are known for seamlessly gliding across stylistic boundaries while lighting up discerning dancefloors. Expect the unexpected when they grace the Desa decks.

Joining them on the turntables will be Rocco Universal, a cultured producer and selector whose music has appeared in the sets and mixes of some of the underground’s most respected artists. A seasoned vinyl collector, he puts years of digging to good use via effortlessly eclectic DJ sets, carefully choosing from a far-reaching collection of sounds to match the dancefloor mood.

The production duo of Dan Tyler and Conrad McDonnell have been crafting dub-heavy, disco-infused sounds under the Idjut Boys moniker (among others) since as far back as the early ‘90s. Releasing on revered labels like Nuphonic, Leng, and Smalltown Supersound — as well as their own U Star and recently revived Noid imprint — many of the pair’s productions are considered gems among discerning vinyl collectors. Their expansive DJ sets are packed with floor-filling sonic surprises, blending space disco, house, AOR, psychedelic rock among many other morsels.

DJ, producer and journalist Rocco Universal’s love of esoteric music runs decades deep. He’s performed at events and festivals across continents and has reviewed and interviewed musical icons for respected international music press.

### About Kanrapee

Kanrapee Chokpaiboon was born and raised in Chiang Mai, Thailand. His work is deeply influenced by his passion for sci-fi films, extraterrestrial beings, and spirituality. In 2015, he traveled to New York, where he had the opportunity to learn from and work with well-known photographers. This experience broadened his perspectives and helped him discover his true passion for photography.

Kanrapee’s photography style revolves around dramatized reality, creating a surreal and quirky atmosphere with a touch of dark humor. He envisions an alternate reality through his lens. Apart from photography, he is also a co-founder of Arc Tribe, a digital magazine, and Arc Press, an independent publisher.

### Mesmerising electronica merges into tripped-out house as the [sun sets](https://seminyak.potatohead.co/feast/beach-club) below the Indian Ocean, sipping on cocktails as the dancefloor sways to the rhythms, the mood shifts with the changing Seminyak light. Potato Head are so happy to welcome the return of our Sun Down Circle events series.

Kicking off the first of two instalments this August, a trio of inspired selectors will take to the stage. Hong Kong scene figurehead Mr Ho tops the bill, the Klasse Wrecks label co-founder drafted in for an extended three-hour set. Mehdi M will set the tone with his expansive electronic sounds, the Egyptian artist having helped establish the underground movement in his Cairo hometown before moving to France to continue his musical journey. Completing the headline acts, local favourite Archie will bring his diverse soundscapes to the party, blending all kinds of weird and wonderful electronic delights into powerfully immersive sets.

Klasse Wrecks co-founder Mr Ho has been flying the flag for underground music in Asia for well over a decade. With an uncompromising sound that drifts between deep house, techno, electro breaks and more, he’s released music on benchmark labels ESP Institute, 2020 Vision among others. His DJ sets travel across tempo and genre, bringing energy and groove to the dancefloors he serves.

DJ and producer Mehdi M is co-founder of Cairo-based Sakanat Records, a collective who’ve been flying the flag for cutting-edge underground music in the Egyptian capital for the last few years, inviting the likes of Dyed Soundorom, The Ghost, Christian AB, and Alexandra to serve their sounds to gyrating dancefloors while organically growing the Sakanat family.

Kenny Dixon Jr. (AKA Moodymann) is a subterranean icon. From raw machine funk to jazz-flecked house, ghetto soul to outright sleaze, his uncompromising and always compelling productions make him one of the most influential artists to have emerged from Detroit’s incredibly fertile dance movement. A genuine legend and a true master of his craft, nobody does it like Moodymann.
